Description
What Does Oolong Passion taste like?
Oolong Passion has a light, floral, and sweet taste, with hints of fresh-cut grass and a well-rounded green flavor. Blood orange peel and passion fruit powder add a sweet and citrus flavor–giving this tea a bright, summery taste that can nevertheless be enjoyed year-round.
Oolong has characteristics that are very similar to both black and green tea. This leads to a delightful flavor profile when paired with the fruit. Due to the varied levels of oxidation around the world, oolong teas can have dramatically varied flavor profiles. Oolong teas that have been oxidized for longer, have a more robust, woodsy and earthy notes. While tea that has been oxidized for a shorter amount of time is sweeter and has a more floral flavor profile.
Tasting Notes: Citrus, light floral, Toasty Oolong, Passionfruit
What are the benefits Oolong Passion?
The benefits of Oolong Passion relate to its nutrient profile and the mindfulness benefits of enjoying a quality cup of tea!
Oolong tea, sometimes written as wu long or wulong, means “black dragon tea.” Other descriptions are “blue tea” or semi-fermented tea. It’s neither black nor green tea, but rather it falls into its own category. It represents true artisan mastery of processing tea. Both China and Taiwan are claimed as origins of Oolong tea, though Taiwan boasts the most famous oolongs as they are traditionally less oxidized and greener in color than Chinese Oolong. Oolong tea represents only 2% of the world tea, so it is a relatively less popular style of tea. Oolong is produced by allowing the tea to wither under the sun and oxidize before curling and twisting. The oxidation can range from 8%-80% depending on the variety and production. Oolong is also rich in antioxidants, even under various steeping conditions (we recommend at least 3 minutes!).
Popular for hundreds of years in Italy and Spain, Blood Orange Peel is a great source of vitamins and antioxidants. Blood Oranges are an amazing source of Vitamin C and Vitamin A, as well. They are also packed full of anti-inflammatories like anthocyanins, beta-carotene, folate and calcium. Similarly, passionfruit is full of vitamin C and A, as well as a large amount of fiber and nutrients including calcium, magnesium and so much more. For both, we use powdered or whole food ingredients — not extracts!
Oolong Passion also includes lemongrass, also called citronella. Lemongrass was commonly used as a folk remedy, and contains a rich source of flavonoids and other phenolic compounds, which contain antioxidants as well.
When should I drink Oolong Passion?
Oolong Passion contains caffeine, so we recommend drinking it in the morning as a coffee replacement or sipping it in the afternoon for a little pick-me-up. It is a great tea to ice and enjoy on a hot summer day. Remember, each bag can be used up to 2-3 times (and be sure to press and massage the bag with a spoon for maximum benefit!)
