The Benefits of CBD Chai

Chai is often considered a wellness tea, combining nutrient-rich spices with antioxidant rich tea varieties. It’s both an enjoyable beverage and fantastic way to supplement your diet with additional sources of nutrition. Chai comes from the Hindi word meaning tea (so saying “Chai tea” is a bit redundant). In Western cuisine, Chai often follows the recipes roots, using a black tea mixed with spices and milk. However, in most coffee shops and tea stores, it’s also common to come across extra sweet Chai varieties, usually in latte-form. At its roots, though, Chai is fragrant and spicy tea, or Masalai chai. The Brothers Apothecary uses Darjeeling Tea in the CBD Chai Tea. Darjeeling Tea is cultivated from Darjeeling or Kalimpong Districts in West Bengal, India. It has an earthy aroma and a full-bodied flavor. Meaning Land of the Thunderbolt, it originally is derived from the Tibetan words Dorge. Darjeeling is a black tea made from younger leaves and buds which contain more caffeine than older and more mature tea leaves. It shares many of the same benefits of black tea. Like Assam, Darjeeling is rich in antioxidants, flavonoids, and other vitamins and minerals. In addition to Darjeeling, The Brothers’ Chai CBD tea contains a wide variety of herbs and spices, including ginger, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, nutmeg and vanilla. Each of these spices contains unique nutritional constituents, including antioxidant rich clove and ginger to the calming aroma of vanilla bean. We’re proud to offer a Chai variety that does not included added sugars, sweeteners, or fillers that mask the taste of the traditional spices.

FAQ’S

CBD: The Popular Cannabinoid

The two most well-known cannabinoids are CBD and THC. CBD was found to have therapeutic properties in the early 2000s. It is a non-psychoactive, anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant relaxant. Most CBD on its own is derived directly from the hemp plant, a cousin of the cannabis plant, and is federally legal, but with state-by-state restrictions. CBD is found to have benefits in humans and pets, but there is little research on its affects on pocket pets such as hamsters, bunnies, and mice.

CBG: The Mother of all Cannabinoids

CBG can convert into other cannabinoids like CBD and CBC through an enzymatic process and is derived from plants that naturally produce CBG, rather than being derived from other cannabinoids through a conversion process.

Many users report that the effects of CBG are almost identical to that of CBD, but through further research, CBG seems to offer other unique benefits supporting nerve pain relief, digestive and antibacterial benefits, mood enhancement, and focus without the sleepy effects of CBD. CBG has also been shown to increase vasodilation, which allows more oxygenated to help heal afflicted areas.

CBN: The Sleep Support Cannabinoid

Most CBN currently on the market is derived from CBD through a chemical conversion process. Many users explore CBN as a melatonin-free sleep aid and sleep quality enhancement that goes beyond CBD. Early studies in rats have show that CBN enchances the deep restorative sleep needed to maintain a healthy body.

Alongside its sleep benefits properties, CBN is reported by users has offering potential antibacterial, neuro-protective, and appetite-stimulating properties. Both CBN and CBG have also been researched for its potential neuro-protective and antibacterial properties.

CBC: The Lesser-Known Cannabinoid

CBC is typically derived from CBGa, the starting cannabinoid compound, and currently there are no natural high-CBC content cannabis or hemp strains available. Research on CBC is still in its early stages compared to CBD and CBN, but studies as early as 2006 have suggested it may have potential anti-cancer, antibiotic, and neurological benefits.

While it feels similar to CBD, many users have reported that this cannabinoid has antidepressant properties and that CBC topicals can help fight acne.

Kava, also known as Kava Kava or Piper Methysticum, is a tall shrub that produces heart-shaped leaves and long flowers. The roots have been used as a ceremonial and medicinal drink in the South Pacific Islands for centuries.

Kava is a central nervous system depressant similar to alcohol. It’s said to relieve stress and promote feelings of well-being, muscle relaxation, and sleep due to its anxiolytic effects.

People native to the South Pacific Islands—mainly Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, and Hawaii—use Kava during cultural ceremonies to create a state of altered consciousness. The root is traditionally crushed, ground, or powdered and soaked in water or coconut milk. Much like Cannabis and Mitragyna Speciosa, there are different strains of Kava such as Puoni Ono, Loa Waka, Borogu, and Borongoru—which can be found on our shelves here in Aurora, Colorado!

The term “functional mushrooms” refers to mushrooms that functional—or natural—medicine advocates and doctors believe to have beneficial health properties beyond nutritional value.

Here are some of the most popular types of functional mushrooms:

– Lion’s Mane: traditionally used by Buddhist monks to help focus. Is known to boost concentration levels and memory.
– Cordyceps: has been used in China for thousands of years. Helps with energy levels, lengthens endurance, and is often found in natural pre-workout formulas.
– Reishi: an integral part of traditional Chinese medicine used for longevity and spirituality. Known as an adaptogen—most commonly used to support sleep, reduce stress, and boost the immune system.
– Chaga: a rich antioxidant mushroom said to have anti-inflammatory benefits and strengthen the immune system. Was used as a coffee ration during WWII due to its flavor and color.
– Turkey Tail: the most common functional mushroom used in cooking and teas. Contains prebiotics and antioxidants that help support digestive health.
